A Jamaican man died last night after a truck he was driving was hit by another truck and plunged into the Yellow River in the state of Georgia in the United States.
He has been identified as Valentine Gayle, 48, who is believed to be from St Mary in Jamaica.
According to police and media reports, Gayle died despite the courageous actions of five men who jumped into the murky waters to try and rescue him.
"He was in my arms and I could feel the last twitch in his body," said Steven Redish, who witnessed the crash and was among the five men who jumped into the water.
The Newton County Sheriff's Office reports that the accident, involving the two dump trucks, occurred on the 1-20 Access Road near Covington, Atlanta.
It's reported that one truck rear-ended the other, sending both vehicles crashing through a concrete barrier and into the river.
