A policeman surveys the damage to the Suzuki Vitara in which eight people were travelling early Saturday morning when it plunged into the Rio Cobre.

Head of the police Traffic Division, Senior Superintendent Calvin Allen says the driver of the vehicle that went over the Flat Bridge in St Catherine killing six people is to be charged with six counts of manslaughter.

The driver, who has been identified as El Frego Slew, turned himself in at the Spanish Town Police Station yesterday.

He confirmed that he was driving the Suzuki Vitara when it plunged into the Rio Cobre early Saturday morning.

SSP Allen says Slew was unable to provide a drivers license and will also be charged for that offense.

Editor's Note: Earlier the police had said that El Frego Slew would be charged with six counts of causing death by dangerous driving. He, however, will be charged with six counts of manslaughter.
