Nutramix is title sponsor for Farm Queen competition
Local feed company, Nutramix, will this year return as title sponsor for the National Farm Queen competition. This year marks the second time that 'The Big Feed' company will be part of the event.
The National Farm Queen competition, now in its 53rd staging, is one of the major highlights of the annual three-day Denbigh Agricultural and Industrial Show and showcases a 'softer side' of the agricultural sector.
Nutramix believes that every country should have the ability to grow its own food, hence, they have decided to get involved with the competition in hopes of getting younger persons more excited and involved in agriculture.
This year, Nutramix will be highlighting the pivotal role women play in agriculture and celebrating and recognising these same women as they continue to contribute to the agricultural sector.
YOUTH, WOMEN CRUCIAL
Brand Manager of Nutramix Tina Hamilton said that youth and women in agriculture are important to the Nutramix brand and the National Farm Queen competition embodies that.
"Women in agriculture are important to us and we really believe in what it is that they (farm queens) are doing," Hamilton said.
The National Farm Queen winner represents the agricultural sector for one year and must be cognisant of the issues affecting the sector. This is why one of the major components of the competition is the presentation of a technical paper. All contestants are required to research and produce a technical paper on developments in agriculture.
Last year's winner was Peta-Gaye Stewart from St Mary. This year's competition will be on Saturday, July 30.
