Chang says Phillips and Shaw should declare assets too
Political commentator Kevin O'Brien Chang says the Finance Minister Audley Shaw and his Opposition counterpart Dr Peter Phillips should now move to release their financial records.
His comments came as Opposition Leader Portia Simpson Miller made public her financial records yesterday.
The records show that Simpson Miller's local, US, and stock portfolios amount to the Jamaican equivalent of just under $15 million.
She also declared a Kingston 6 property bought for $58,000, but did not indicate its current market value.
Chang says given the sensitive positions held by Shaw and Dr Phillips, they too should publicly declare their assets
Chang says Simpson Miller's decision to release her record shows that Jamaica's democracy is progressing.
He also says Jamaicans care more about the process of transparency and accountability than the actual value of politicians' assets
