A St Thomas man is now in police custody after allegedly trying to kill himself and his girlfriend by driving into the sea.

It is reported that shortly after midday yesterday the couple was driving along the Lyssons main road in the parish when the woman indicated that she wanted to end the relationship.

This reportedly caused an argument and the man allegedly threatened to crash the vehicle.

It’s reported that on reaching a section of Wharf road in Morant Bay he drove the car off the road, plunging the vehicle more than 50 feet into the sea.

The woman was rescued and taken to the nearby Princess Margaret Hospital where she was admitted.

The man was later taken into custody for questioning.

The Morant Bay police have confirmed that the driver is in custody but are remaining tightlipped about the reason for his arrest.
