Deidre-Ann Thompson trusting God’s plans for her life
The Bible declares in Jeremiah 29:11 that the Lord knows the plans He has for you - plans to prosper you and not to harm you, but to give you hope and a future.
With absolutely no idea what the Lord's plans for her were, Deidre-Ann Thompson quit her job not knowing what her next move would have been, but according to her, she was ready and willing to 'step out in faith' and follow the Lord.
"God told me to quit my job, after seven-and-a-half years as a banker, and trust Him for His guidance. I did not have a back-up plan, nor did He tell me to apply elsewhere for another 9-5 job," she said.
Deidre-Ann has, however, proven that the God she serves leaves no job undone.
She was only 13 years old when she accepted Christ as her personal Saviour.
"To be honest, the decision was based largely on the rumour that the world would end in the year 2000. I did not understand in full the true essence of being a Christian then, or having a real relationship with Christ until 2012 when I recommitted," she explained.
Like a lost sheep, curiously, Deidre-Ann wandered out into the world. "I was in church every Sunday just the same, even though I was out clubbing, swearing, and having sex. But I always felt convicted each time I dabbled in sin because of the early Christian foundation I had."
At 25 years old, she was pregnant and living with her child's father. She described her turning point as a tense situation in which she was struggling financially.
"I was going to church every now and again and I felt empty, lost, bitter, and angry. I would be at work and would even start crying in front of customers when I thought of the stress I was facing at home," she shared.
"After God placed it on my heart to quit my job in January of this year, without as much as a savings plan, He birthed the ministry 'Step Out In Faith'. It is a movement that seeks to empower and encourage persons, at different levels of their faith walk, to take that first step in overcoming fear and doing what God has called them to do," she told Family and Religion.
She also manages a group on Facebook called 'Confessions of A Christian Woman', where women worldwide have a safe haven and an outlet to share their testimonies and trials and are able to forge a sisterhood with other young women.
In line with the message of 'Step Out In Faith', Deidre-Ann has launched her company, 'Beyond Borders Boutique', which is a brand of faith-based Christian apparel. So far, the 'Step Out in Faith' T-shirts have been a bestseller, as it bears the message of trusting God and stepping out in faith to do all He has called you to do.
"I am also a content writer for a Christian website, where I share articles that encourage, uplift, or challenge others in their walk with Christ. God also instructed me to chronicle my faith walk through my blog after I quit my job, so my personal stories are shared on www.stepoutinfaithblog.
Deidre-Ann laments that the pleasures of the world are only temporary.
"I have done enough in my life to see that it pales in comparison to a life fully surrendered to Christ. After the clubbing, the sex, and everything else, I still felt empty inside. I still suffered from low self-esteem, and I was always searching for something to fill the void that was always present. God had to break me down and build me up again. The process wasn't easy, but it was worth it.
