PM Holness off to Rio, visiting Jamaican athletes at Olympics
Prime Minister Andrew Holness left the island today for Brazil to bring "good wishes" to the Jamaican athletes competing at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
"The Prime Minister who will be in Rio until August 16, said it is important that he brings the good wishes of the nation directly to the athletes," read a statement issued this afternoon from the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM).
Derrick Smith, minister without portfolio in the OPM will be in charge of the government while Holness is away.
The Prime Minister will be arriving in Brazil a day before the track and field events start at the Olympics.
Jamaica is being represented at the Games by 63 athletes in four sports.
