Jamaica will have two representatives in the final of the women’s 400m, as the nation seeks its third medal in the event at the Olympics.

Shericka Jackson and Stephenie Ann McPherson will bear the national colours in tomorrow’s final set for 8:45 p.m.

Jackson, who won bronze at last year’s World Championships, was Jamaica’s most impressive qualifier after shocking herself with a season’s best 49.83 run to win semi-final two.

"I really didn’t know I was going that fast as I was following my coach’s instruction as best as possible. He told me I would run a season’s best but I didn’t expect a personal best as well but I just have to give thanks and I really want to do well," she said.

American Natasha Hastings placed second in 49.90 which is also a SB.

National champion McPherson progressed after placing second in semi-final one in a time of 50.69 seconds.

The race was won by the American Phyllis Francis in 50.31 seconds.

The 2008 Olympic champion and 2012 silver medallist Christine Ohuruogu of Great Britain was fifth in 51.22 hence failing to advance.

Jamaica’s other quarter-miler, Christine Day, failed to make it out of a tough semi-final, as she placed fourth in 51.62 seconds.

The race was won by reigning world champion Allyson Felix of the United States in a SB of 49.67 seconds with Shaunae Miller.of The Bahamas, the fattest woman in the event for this season, being placed second in 49.91 seconds.
