Sixteen Caymanas Park workers fired
Caymanas Park Limited has dismissed 16 workers from its engineering department.
Two weeks ago the workers reportedly took industrial action over issues relating to trainee workers who were assigned to their department.
The issue led to the cancellation of a race day at Caymanas Park two weeks ago.
Last Friday, the Labour Ministry met with the Union of Technical, Administrative and Supervisory Personnel (UTASP) which represents the workers and the managers of Caymanas Park in an effort to resolve the issue.
But Managing Director of Caymanas Track Limited Shane Dalling says after the meeting with the ministry, the managers agreed to fire the workers because they had lost confidence in them.
Last week, General Secretary of UTASP, St. Patrice Ennis told The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre that new workers were hired one day after the workers were dismissed.
But Dalling says no new people have been hired in the engineering department.
Attempts this afternoon to get a comment from Ennis were futile.
