There is renewed concern about the violence in Kingston following last night's shooting incident in which a two-year-old toddler was shot dead and his father and another man injured.

The toddler has been identified as Demario Whyte of Luke Lane, Kingston.

The police say around 8 o’clock, several people were standing in the vicinity of Luke Lane and Beeston Street when a vehicle drove up and unknown assailants opened fire from the car hitting little Demario, his father and another man.

They were taken to hospital where Demario was pronounced dead.

The father and the other man remain in hospital.

Communications Officer of Jamaica Constabulary Force Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay says the shooting may have been gang-related.

She says there has been a heightened presence of security forces in the area since the incident.

Over the past week there have been multiple shootings in the downtown Kingston area.
