Expanded rural school bus programme for Clarendon
Transport Minister, Mike Henry, says the second leg of the rural school bus programme in Clarendon will be rolled out for the start of the new academic year.
Henry says five Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) buses will be used for the programme.
The buses are among 40 new buses which the JUTC recently received.
The transport minister says details of the bus programme are to be outlined shortly.
According to Henry, the school bus programme will provide a structured mechanism for the transportation of students in Clarendon.
The Clarendon Safe School Bus Programme was officially launched in September 2014 by the Clarendon Parish Council and the Transport Authority to provide safe and comfortable transportation for students to and from school.
It started with three schools, as part of the pilot, in the May Pen area.
The programme was later expanded to include schools in south Clarendon such as the Vere Technical and Garvey Maceo high schools.
