State Minister in the Education Ministry, Floyd Green, is expressing sadness at the tragic deaths of three children this week.

On Tuesday, two-year-old Demario Whyte was shot dead in downtown Kingston after gunmen opened fire on a group of people.

That same day, the bodies of 11- year-old Dwayne Brown and 14-year-old Kiiko Mendez were found in Lyssons, St. Thomas after they went missing at sea the previous day.

Green says it's disturbing that children are dying because of misfortunes, recklessness, callousness and gang wars.

He's also imploring parents and guardians to take greater control of their children’s actions by ensuring that they are properly supervised at all times to avoid tragedies.

The state minister is appealing to communities to exercise greater vigilance in supervising all children as the summer period comes to an end.

Meanwhile, Green says the Child Development Agency has deployed a team of first responders to the communities where the tragedies occurred to provide grief counselling and other support to the families of the deceased.
