Police charge man who allegedly mowed down inspector

The police have charged the driver who allegedly mowed down and killed a police inspector in front of the Clarks Town Police Station in Trelawny two weeks ago.

The driver, 24- year-old Andre Brown, from Trelawny, has been charged with manslaughter, failing to stop at an accident and failing to report an accident.  

It’s reported that Inspector Mark Gibbs was conducting a routine police check when he was hit by Brown.

Inspector Gibbs was pronounced dead at the Falmouth hospital.

Brown who had fled the scene in his motor vehicle turned in himself to the police the following day.

Inspector Gibbs was a 30-year veteran of the police force and was the head of the Clarks Town Police station.

He was the second policeman to be mowed down in August.

Police constable Mark Rose of the Mobile Reserve Division was hit in Spanish Town, St Catherine a week earlier.
