Gov't appoints committee to lead celebration for Rio Olympians

Sports Minister Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange says the government has appointed a special committee to lead the national celebrations for Jamaica’s athletes who competed at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro Brazil last month.

She indicated that the celebrations could take place next month.

Jamaica won 11 medals at the Games, including a historic three gold medals by sprint superstar Usain Bolt.

Grange says members of the Salute to Rio Sports Ambassadors Planning Committee are now going over a number of proposals to ensure that the achievements of the athletes are celebrated in the most fitting manner.

She says the government wants to ensure that the activities developed by the committee will serve to unite and inspire the entire nation.
