The West Kingston police say all cops in the division will be deployed to the streets today as students start the new school year amid an upsurge of violence in the division.

Yesterday Denham Town residents staged protests after four people, including a five-year-old girl, were shot in the community.

The residents expressed concern about the safety of children who are starting the new school year today.

Head of The West Kingston Police Superintendent Howard Chambers says even cops who are stationed in office will be deployed to the streets today to reassure students who are returning to school.

Meanwhile, Superintendent Chambers says the four people who were shot in Denham Town yesterday remain in stable condition.

He says the police and the military are maintaining a strong presence in the Denham Town area.
