JCDC encourages public to submit tribute videos for Miss Lou 'Online Party'
The Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) is set to celebrate the 97th anniversary of Louise Bennett-Coverley's birth with an Internet party.
The event, dubbed 'Saluting Miss Lou: Aunty Roachy Online Party', will get underway on September 7.
Stephen Davidson, director of marketing and public relations at the JCDC, says “Miss Lou is one of Jamaica’s most beloved cultural icons, and everyone has at least one of her poems which they hold dear”. “We have partnered with some of Jamaica’s most prominent personalities to bring these poems to life in their own special way”.
“We also encourage the public to share their videos on their own social media pages using the hashtags #misslou2016 and #auntyroachyparty and tag the JCDC on Twitter and Instagram using the @jcdcjamaica handle,” he added.
Davidson says some of Jamaica’s biggest names in the private and public sectors as well as the entertainment industry have been encouraged to celebrate Miss Lou by recording videos of themselves reciting their favourite poem, which will be featured during the online party.
The JCDC is inviting members of the public to submit tribute videos to firstname.lastname@example.org no later than midnight today.
A tribute concert will be live streamed on livestream.com/flowlive/misslou to allow persons across the globe to in the celebrations.
Members of the public with enquiries about the event can contact the JCDC’s Marketing and Public Relations Department at 926-5726-9 or 754-6467.
