Five Jamaicans spared deportation from the UK, more than 40 arrive today
The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre has learnt that at least five of the 50 people who were booked to be deported to Jamaica from the United Kingdom today have been given a reprieve.
Yesterday a group of demonstrators in the United Kingdom gathered in front of the Jamaican High Commission in London to protest the Jamaican government's cooperation with the UK on the matter.
They called on the Jamaican High Commission to prevent the deportations, saying some of the persons had been in the UK since they were children.
Today our UK correspondent Deon Green says lawyers for five of the persons managed to secure a stop order on their deportation at the last minute.
The flight with the others left the Stansted Airport in London for Jamaica this morning.
