Eston Swaby knows all about discouragement, dissatisfaction with the life he lived, and the feeling of wanting to throw in the towel and quit.

But these days, he is about living an empowered life and he wants others to do the same - hence the motivation in his penning his first book, An Empowered Life. It is an inspirational and devotional book written to help readers overcome challenges, rejections, setbacks, oppositions, and walk in their purpose.

The book, which is now available on Amazon and in paperback has seen the author receiving positive feedback from readers regarding the impact it has had on them.

"One person said to me that from the moment he started reading the book, he could not put it down. He just wanted to continue as he found it very empowering. People have been blessed by my book," he said.

Swaby was not short on inspiration in writing the book as he shared that he had a lot of issues with himself.

"For one, I did not love my life. I loved nothing about myself and would always be comparing myself with others. But I remembered while I was in that state, the Lord allowed me to watch a movie which was about this pastor who did not love his life, he could not see the beauty in his life, only the mess and that is what enemy does at times; blind our eyes so all we see is the mess," he said.

By the time Swaby was through watching the movie, the truth was made clear to him that God made him perfect and unique.

"Throughout my life, I have faced many obstacles and had to deal with a lot of issues - doubt, fear, condemnation, among others. Many times I question my purpose, I have even asked God many times how can He love an emotional wreck like me," he shared.

Swaby added that among the other emotions, he had to overcome were guilt, regrets, suicidal thoughts, and allowing people's words to become his reality.

But thanks to God and the persons He placed in his life, he has regained his focus and experienced a spiritual revival.

A combination of these timely interventions from God has given him the spiritual energy to empower others through his writing.

Swaby, who gave his life to the Lord at age 12, said he was influenced by his grandmother who brought him to church.

Although some of his friends who were baptised at an early age with him backslid. Swaby said under his grandmother's guidance, he was able to keep the faith.

It was also during his formative years that he developed a passion for writing.

"I always loved to write because when I write, I can create whatever reality I wanted. I can do anything I wanted to do. In high school, I always loved to write stories and had even tried writing a book or two in high school, but nothing became of them, but those books, along with stories and essays I have written, were instrumental in developing my writing skills," he said.

Swaby, who hails from Cold Spring Mountain in Westmoreland is a past student of Maud McLeod High School where he pursued the sciences. He went on to earn his degree in psychology at the University of the West Indies, Western Campus in Montego Bay, St James.

He is now putting his training at work in the ministry.

A deacon at the Remnant of Jesus Christ Church in Savanna-La-Mar, Westmoreland, Swaby also serves as Sunday school and bible study teacher.
