Six-year-old child shot and injured in March Pen, St Catherine
The Jamaica Constabulary Force is reporting that a six-year-old child was shot and injured in March Pen, St Catherine Wednesday afternoon.
According to the police, the child has been hospitalised.
The police could not immediately provide further details on the incident.
Earlier, the police had incorrectly reported that the child had died.
Two children have been shot dead in gun battles between rival gangs in Kingston and St Mary in the past month.
On Sunday, Opposition Leader, Portia Simpson Miller complained that she had heard "not a peep" from the Andrew Holness-led administration about the killing or wounding of children in recent times.
In July after the murder of a child, the Government pledged tough laws for killers.
More than 1,500 children have been murdered in Jamaica since 2000.
