Two more persons were shot and killed in St James last night despite assurances from the Ministry of National Security and the police that the crime wave across the parish has been contained.

The latest victims are 35-year-old Robert James of Mount Salem Road, and Kemoy Nelson, of a West Gate Hills address.

More than 26 murders have been recorded across St James in the past two weeks, pushing the number of people killed in the parish since the start of the year closer to the 200-mark.

However, in a statement yesterday, the ministry of national security and the police sought to assure residents that calm had been restored to the parish following the capture of a man described as the primary suspect behind the killings.

The police report that James and Nelson were among a group of persons standing along a roadway in Mount Salem when gunmen travelling on a motorcycle drove up and opened fire.

The police were summoned and the two men were found with gunshot wounds all over their bodies.
