National Cruise Council reactivated
Tourism Minister, Edmund Bartlett, has reactivated the National Cruise Council with a mandate to help boost cruise visitor arrivals to Jamaica.
The 13-member council chaired by Michael Belnavis comprises representatives from the public and private sectors.
Its responsibilities include advocating for the cruise business in Jamaica, monitoring global cruise shipping trends, strategically safeguarding relationships with cruise shipping lines and enhancing the experience of the cruise ship passengers.
Bartlett says the cruise industry has become the fastest growing segment in the travel industry around the world.
According to him, cruise passenger arrivals grew by 23.5 per cent for the month of June, bringing to 110,086 the number of passengers from 25 cruise ship calls.
