8 arrested for lottery scamming
Four persons were detained by members of the Area One Lottery Scam Task Force during predawn operations in the Williamsfield area of Hampton, St James, yesterday. Four others were arrested on Thursday in the Glendevon area.
Reports are that at about 5 a.m., the individuals, which include two men and two women, were taken into custody as the Area One Lottery Scam Task Force carried out investigations relating to lottery scamming and other financial crimes in the area. A BMW X6 was also seized during the raid.
This latest operation is among several being carried out by lawmen in the parish, which has been plagued by a surge of crime and violence in recent months. It is also on the heels of yesterday's arrest of four individuals in Long Wall, Glendevon, for their suspected involvement in the illicit lottery scam. The detainees, two males and two females, were arrested and several electronic devices seized.
Commissioner of Police Dr Carl Williams recently re-established the Lottery Scam Task Force in St James to further tackle lottery-scamming activities within Area One.
The public is being reminded to share what they know with the police by contacting the Area One tip hotline at 952-4396, Crime Stop at 811 or 311, Police 119 emergency number, or the nearest Police Station.
