Mitchell Town residents fear storm surges as Hurricane Matthew approaches
Residents of the southern coastal community of Mitchell Town in Clarendon are expressing fear that Hurricane Matthew could trigger storm surges.
Shelter manager Florizel Thompson says while the severe drought that affected the country last year has left gullies and drains clear, which makes the community less prone to flooding, storm surges could severely affect the community.
He says residents have been feverishly preparing for the hurricane since Friday. He says the community is also prepared to move vulnerable persons to shelter if the need arises.
