Prime Minister Andrew Holness says it would have taken four days for Jamaica to fully recover if the country had been hit by Hurricane Matthew.

Holness says a major challenge for Jamaica is the country’s infrastructure which he says would not have managed a direct hit from a serious weather system.

He cites the extensive flooding seen across sections of the island after less than an hour of heavy rains.

The Prime Minister says another challenge is poor disposal of waste by Jamaicans which he says is undermining the country’s infrastructure.

Holness says Jamaicans need to change their behaviour towards waste disposal and disasters.

He says the government will be giving additional focus to waste management across the country.
