Agriculture Minister Karl Samuda is currently holding a meeting at the ministry to resolve the issues regarding housing for sugar workers at Golden Grove in St Thomas.

The workers are currently occupying unfinished houses in the area.

The sugar workers were allowed by the government to temporarily take up residence in the houses as Hurricane Matthew passed by Jamaica.

However, they have declared they will not move and are demanding that the government allow them to stay.

The sugar workers also want the government to complete the houses, which lack water, electricity and sewage works.

The houses, which were built through the European Union-funded Sugar Transformation Programme in the Agriculture Ministry, have been sitting idle and unfinished for some time now.

The properties have been vandalism and have become feeding grounds for stray livestock.
