The government has announced plans to stage three days of celebrations to salute the achievements of Jamaica’s delegation to the Olympic Games held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in August.

The events are to be held over the Heroes Weekend, which begins next Friday.

Jamaica won 11 medals at the Olympic Games, including an historic three gold medals by sprint superstar Usain Bolt.

The celebrations kick off on Friday when Prime Minister Andrew Holness is scheduled to host the entire delegation at a reception to be held at Jamaica House.

The highlight of the celebrations will be a Gala and Awards Ceremony to be held at the National Indoor Sports Centre on Saturday.

The Sports Ministry says all athletes who competed at the games will be guests of honour and that the Government will present cash awards to each member of the delegation, including coaches and other officials.

A similar ceremony will be held at the Melia Braco Village in Trelawny on Sunday to give residents of western Jamaica an opportunity to pay tribute to the team.
