Bermuda is expected to experience heavy rainfall and strong winds when Hurricane Nicole hits the archipelago on Thursday.

Nicole is currently a category two hurricane.

Bermuda's Minister of National Security, Jeffrey Baron has urged residents to take seriously storm preparations as forecasters say there is a possibility that Nicole could hit the country as a category three hurricane.

The National Hurricane Centre in the US says Bermudians should rush to protect life and property ahead of Nicole's impact.

Tropical storm conditions with winds between 39 and 73 miles per hour  are expected in Bermuda as the latest satellite images show a large eye as Nicole spins south of the country.

Meanwhile as Nicole, prepares to bear down on Bermuda, Jamaica's Met office says a  trough will remain over this country for the next several days.

Scattered afternoon showers and isolated thunderstorms are forecast for most parishes.
