A Jamaican fugitive has been arrested in Black River, St Elizabeth 26 years after he allegedly committed murder and other offences in the United States and fled to Jamaica.

The police say 53-year-old Dale Ainsley Ewers of Mountainside district in St Elizabeth was arrested in Black River on Monday under the Extradition Act.

Ewers is wanted in Florida for first degree murder, robbery using a deadly weapon, sexual battery and kidnapping with a deadly weapon.

It is reported that on Friday September 21, 1990, Mr Ewers allegedly committed the offences and later fled to Jamaica.

Yesterday, he appeared before the court for extradition proceedings and was remanded until November 8.

The Jamaican police say Ewers was captured following a collaborative investigation between the local Counter Terrorism and Organized Crime Branch and United States Law Enforcement agencies.
