Work on landslide-affected section of North South Highway to wrap up January
Work on the section of the North South Highway which collapsed due to a landslide at the end of May is scheduled to be completed in January next year.
The landslide occurred after days of heavy rain.
It occurred at a section of the highway between Unity Valley and Treadways in St Catherine.
Engineers from China Harbour Engineering Company Limited (CHEC) are currently building a new retaining wall in the area.
However, Managing Director of the National Road Operating and Constructing Company, Ivan Anderson, says the landslide which blocked one of the south lanes leading to Kingston has not been cleared from the roadway.
Anderson says the developers are hoping to reopen both south bound lanes in February.
However, until then he says the operators will keep a third lane open on the north-bound side to accommodate traffic heading towards Kingston.
