CRICKET: WI Women succumb to England in ODI series

The West Indies Women went down by five wickets to England Women and with it surrendered their five-match One-Day International Series 3-2 at Sabina Park today.

Batting first, the West Indies struggled somewhat with the bat, and could only post 155 off 47.1 overs with captain Stafanie Taylor hitting a top score of 57.

Middle-order batter Britney Cooper, 23, and opener Hayley Matthews, 22, were next best scorers against left-arm spinner and Player-of-the-Match, Alex Hartley, who claimed four for 24.

England Women, in their reply, then showed good application before crossing the line at 158 for five with 11.1 overs remaining.

Marquee batter, Natalie Sciver, 58, made most runs for the victors with in-form opener, Tammy Beaumont getting 34.

Emerging leg-spinner Afy Fletcher, two for 28 off her maxim 10 overs, was the pick of the bowlers for the Caribbean women.

The 23-year-old Hartley and Taylor were named joint Player-of-the-Series.
