Fifteen citizens were honoured by the St Catherine Parish Council in Emancipation Square, Spanish Town, on Monday for their outstanding contribution to the development of the parish in different areas.

Chairman of the parish council and mayor of Spanish Town Norman Scott, in his address to the large gathering, praised the contribution of the awardees, describing them as local stars who continue to labour in their respective communities to enrich the lives of their fellowmen.

"As the old Jamaican adage says, 'encouragement sweetness labour', therefore, we use this opportunity to show you that we appreciate your efforts throughout the years and pray that God will grant you perpetual strength as you continue to serve the people," the mayor told the awardees.

He added: "Despite the challenges we face as a people, we can be encouraged that Jamaicans here in St Catherine are committed to be change agents."

Scott thanked the awardees for the many hours they have given to transforming lives and inspiring hope in the parish.
