Displaced criminals driving up crime in Portland – Police

Published:Monday | October 24, 2016 | 10:52 PM

The Portland Police have theorised that the increase in criminal activity across the parish is being driven by criminals who have been displaced from other parishes.

Portland, deemed the safest parish islandwide, has seen a spiral in crime, especially armed robberies.

Since the start of this year, armed thugs have robbed at least five business establishments in the parish including a pharmacy, a supermarket, animal feed store, a night club, and a bar.

There have also been similar house robberies across Portland.

The police are now urging residents and businesses to be more vigilant.

The police are also appealing to residents and business operators not to keep large sums of money in their possession overnight or on the weekend.
