UPDATED: Hanna claims threats made against her in constituency
St Ann South Eastern, Member of Parliament, Lisa Hanna, is alleging that individuals in her constituency have threatened violence against her.
She made the disclosure in a video post on YouTube in which she addressed delays in starting the Golden Grove repair project that appears to be the centre of the discord.
Hanna said one of the individuals threatened her on social media, but we have not named the person because the claim could not be independently verified.
Hanna did not immediately reply to questions on whether she had reported the matter to the police.
Meanwhile, communications manager at the National Works Agency, Stephen Shaw, said work will start on the $27 million project today.
He explained that the work was delayed because the contractor could not provide an insurance bond.
Shaw said the road has been in a poor state for some time.
Hanna and three of the councillors in her constituency were in a bitter struggle last year.
Lydia Richards of Bensonton division, Lloyd Garrick of Moneague division and Lambert Weir of Claremont had criticised Hanna for what they argued was her ineffectiveness in the constituency.
The issue was one of the several internal discords that plagued the People's National Party's lead up to the general election loss in February.
EDITOR'S NOTE: This story has been updated as Lisa Hanna has indicated she did not say the individual named in her YouTube post was a councillor.
