May 28,1953, the lives of David and Albertha Stewart changed forever as they were blessed with a beautiful baby girl to be called Merlene Veronica Stewart.

Merlene could be described as the perfect baby as she hardly fussed and was gladly kept by neighbours and friends whenever her parents had to go to work or run errands. This trait grew with her, and even at school, she was always commended for her behaviour.

With her radiant and caring personality she entered into the fitting profession of childcare, but didn't continue for long as she returned home to assist her parents on their family farm.

In 1970, she got pregnant with her first child, Richard, and years later, a second child. She still remained a beautiful and humble being which made Linval Anderson fall deeply in love with her. He actively pursued her with zeal and zest and, of course, they joined their hands in marriage and had seven beautiful children.

Aunty Merl, as she was affectionately called by her nieces, nephews and members of the community, worked for many years picking coffee at different farms. This was a job she did very well to sustain her family.

A lover of family and a homemaker, her favourite meal was rice and peas with chicken. She was also known for her stewed peas which she described as 'tun up'.

She ensured that her humble home was always kept clean and her doors was always open to family and friends in need.

Man that is born of a woman but a short time to live and is full of trouble. Their lives are full with memories, precious memories that will live on, long after they are gone.
