Jamaican Tyrone Brown has been sentenced to 15 years in prison by a high court judge in Bermuda for a drug conviction.

Brown, a 31-year-old Kingston electrician, was found guilty by a jury of importing 894.6 grams of cocaine worth up to US$132,000 into the island in April.

He had denied the allegation.

Prosecutors told the court that Brown arrived in Bermuda on a flight from Miami, Florida, but his luggage did not arrive with him on the same day.

They told the court that the luggage arrived the following day and were subsequently searched by customs officers who found the cocaine in two packages inside the bag.

Brown was arrested and charged.
