Residents of Warner Street in Port Maria wade through water following heavy rains in St Mary.

Member of Parliament for western St Mary, Robert Montague, is urging his constituents to be vigilant and evacuate low lying and flood prone areas amid continued heavy rains.

Montague says on a visit to his constituency yesterday, he observed several roads which were blocked by debris from the heavy rainfall.

Montague says a number of communities have been flooded, forcing some residents to take refuge with relatives living in safer homes.

He says a number of schools in the constituency may have to remain closed due to the inclement weather.

The Met Office yesterday issued a Flash Flood Warning for low-lying and flood prone areas of Portland, St Mary and St Ann.

A Flash Flood Warning means flooding has been reported or will occur shortly.

The Met Office says a broad Trough currently across the Central Caribbean has been producing unstable weather across Jamaica.

The trough is expected to move over the island by tomorrow.
