The police are reportedly having difficulty determining the source of a viral voice message warning of impending war in Spanish Town, St Catherine, which has been causing fear among residents of the old capital.

In the voice message, a man reveals that a war is brewing between rival factions of the Klansman and One Order gangs.

He says attacks are being planned for the coming Christmas season.

Communication officer at the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Stephanie Lindsay, says the source of the voice message is difficult to decipher since the message was shared with many people on multiple social media platforms.

However, she says the police are more concerned about the information in the voice message and the motives that led to the recording rather than the person who sent it.

Lindsay says the police and military have increased their presence in the commercial district of Spanish Town to reassure business owners and residents that the area is still safe.

She is urging residents not to panic, but to report suspicious activities so that the security forces can avert possible attacks.
