National Security Minister, Robert Montague, says his ministry is now preparing the budget to support a request by the Jamaica Constabulary Force to split St James Division into two police divisions.

Last month, Police Commissioner, Dr Carl Williams announced that the Police would be pursuing the change to enable the security force to better tackle crime in the parish.

Montague says the national security ministry is also acquiring the services of an attorney-at-law to help investigators prepare criminal cases.

He told The Gleaner that these are among the latest steps in the ongoing efforts by the national security ministry to curtail the crime problem in St James.

Since the start of the year, the St James police have recorded 212 murders.

This has tied the number of murders recorded for all of last year marking it the second straight year the parish has seen over 200 murders.
