Global sprinting superstar Usain Bolt is in Australia where he will tomorrow launch the game-changing athletics series, Nitro Athletics in Melbourne.

The high-energy, franchise-based sports entertainment event will see Bolt compete and captain the 'Bolt All-Stars' team, which will feature other international athletes, competing in a team format for points over three nights in the Australian city between February 4 and 11.

Nitro Athletics will feature six teams from both Australia and internationally, consisting of 24 athletes (12 women and 12 men) from all over the world, who will compete as teams in traditional and non-traditional event such as mixed relays in what has been described as track and field's answer to Twenty20 cricket.

The series is set to be Bolt's first international appearance in his preparation for his final major international championships, the World Championships set for London in August.

Besides Bolt, several other top international athletes have expressed an interest in taking part in the series with announcements of other teams and confirmed superstars expected over the coming weeks.

Nitro Athletics will be Bolt's first time competing on Australian soil even though he did tease Australian media during the Rio Olympics by not ruling out an appearance at the 2018 Commonwealth Games set for the Gold Coast.
