The Ministry of Justice says the Office of the Public Defender and the Administrator General’s Department have been designated to protect the interests of persons who will file claims against the Government in relation to the May 2010 operation in West Kingston.

The ministry says in keeping with their mandates the public defender will represent the interests of affected residents and the administrator general will guard the interests of minors who would be involved in claims.

The government last month set up a Compensation Committee to receive and assess claims for damages arising from the operation.

The deadline for submission is Monday, December 5.

Committee Chairman, Justice Seymour Panton, has said that the body will carefully deliberate on all claims.

The committee is expected to finalise its deliberations and make recommendations for compensation within nine months.
