A policeman is now in hospital in serious condition after he was shot and injured during a robbery attempt in St Andrew last night.

His identity has not been released.

However, the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) says he is assigned to the Protective Services Division.

The Half-Way Tree Police reports that two men armed with guns were in the process of robbing a pump attendant at a gas station along Washington Boulevard when the policeman attempted to assist and was shot several times.

CCU says his condition is considered serious, but stable.
