The Electoral Office of Jamaica is reporting that Marlon Mitchell, the independent candidate for the Bellefield Division in Manchester Central has withdrawn his candidacy from the 2016 Local Government Elections.

The EOJ says the candidate, who was nominated on November 11, has written to the Returning Officer for the Electoral Division, indicating his wish to be removed from the slate of candidates who will contest the election on November 28.

The People’s National Party’s Mario Mitchell will clash with the Jamaica Labour Party’s Ian Hibbert.

Candidates may withdraw up to 96 hours before the opening of the poll on Election Day.
