Woman charged with murder four months after getting licensed firearm

A St Andrew businesswoman has been charged with murder four months after she was issued with a firearm licence.

Following a ruling by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Carlene Spence, 44, was today charged with the September shooting death of a man inside the Constant Spring Arcade.

Spence who surrendered to police investigators in the company of her attorney will remain in custody until her first court appearance on Wednesday.

Attorney-at-law Peter Champagnie has confirmed that he escorted Spence to the Half-Way Tree Police Station today.

He told The Gleaner that his client has asserted that she acted in self defence.

According to reports, Spence got into an altercation with the man before explosions were heard.
