Spare parts shortage affecting traffic lights replacement on Spanish Town toll road

The National Works Agency (NWA) says it will take some time before it can repair the traffic lights along the Spanish Town Link Road in St Catherine as the agency does not have the spare parts in storage.

The lights, which facilitate motorists exiting and entering the Spanish Town leg of the East/West Toll Road, has been out of operation since thieves stole the connecting cables almost two weeks ago.

Communication Manager at the NWA, Stephen Shaw, says that the agency is seeking to source the cables to replace the ones stolen.

He says the cables will be sourced in line with the government’s procurement rules, which could take some time.

It will cost the NWA just under $3 million to repair the traffic light system.
