Classes suspended at Portland school after heavy rains leave students marooned

Classes have been suspended at the Orange Bay Basic School in Portland for today.

Yesterday 25 children and teachers had to be rescued by fire-fighters after flood waters left them marooned as heavy rains lashed the eastern parish.

Meanwhile, a section of the roadway at Spring Garden is now only able to accommodate single lane traffic following a landslide yesterday.

However, in East Portland, up to late last night a section of the roadway at Fellowship was impassable as a nearby river overflowed its banks.
