The Police High Command has moved to dispel reports that incarcerated Jamaican drug kingpin Christopher 'Dudus' Coke is dead.

Reports have been circulating on social media since yesterday that Coke, the reputed leader of the Shower Posse, committed suicide in his jail cell at the Edgefield Federal Correctional Institution in the United States.

The reports claim Coke was found hanging from a rope tied to a window in the cell.

However, in a statement today, the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) said checks with its international partners have confirm that the reports are false.

The JCF says such reports could lead to unwarranted anxiety and panic in some quarters, and urged those responsible to desist from making frivolous statements.

Coke pleaded guilty to federal racketeering charges in the state of New York in 2011 and was sentenced a year later to 23 years in prison.
