Town Clerk Robert Hill says he expects to receive formal documentation this week on the reason the Kingston and St Andrew Health Department ordered the closure of Brooklyn Supermarket, located on Constant Spring Road, in St Andrew.

The supermarket was ordered closed on Friday.

In a notice posted at the entrance to the supermarket, the health department revealed that its action stemmed from non-compliance under the Public Health Food Handling and Nuisance regulations.

Details of the breaches were not disclosed.

The health department also warned that there should be no operation involving the preparation or sale of food items during the closure.

Hill told The Gleaner-Power106 news centre he was informed of the decision to close the supermarket and expects to get more details this week.

The health department says the supermarket will remain closed until further advised and warned that it is an offence to remove the public notice posted at the establishment.
