A thirteen-year-old boy is now undergoing surgery at hospital following a shooting incident on Paradise Street off Windward Road in East Kingston.

The police have confirmed the shooting but have no further details at this time.

“We can confirm the shooting but in terms of the details, we don’t have much. We’re still trying to get on to it. The information we are getting from the people is not very useful,” head of the Jamaica Constabulary Force Corporate Communications Unit, Stephanie Lindsay, told The Gleaner.

Member of Parliament for the area, Phillip Paulwell, said that based on reports he has received, the wound might have been self inflicted.

“I gather that it was an accident but I don’t know how he got possession of a firearm. He is now undergoing surgery,” Paulwell said.
