"We deserve this victory," Jamaica Labour Party Leader, Andrew Holness told supporters after his party secured a resounding win in the 2016 local government election.

Preliminary results show the Labourites winning eight of the 14 local government authorities.

The PNP, which previously had control of all 14 local authorities has managed to retain the Manchester, Westmoreland and Hanover divisions.

There is however, a tie in St Thomas and St Catherine.

Holness told Labourites at the party’s Belmont Road headquarters in St. Andrew that many had doubted the JLP since its February general election win.

However, Holness said the Government continues to prove the naysayer wrong and impress Jamaicans.

"We now have been accomplishing some major things, and this victory can almost be seen as a referendum on our performance for the last nine months, and Jamaica is saying ‘you have performed’," he said.

However, Holness said his government knows there is no room for complacency.

He also warned JLP councillors to approach the job with soberness.
