Grange: Bolt is most deserving of sixth IAAF Athlete of the Year Award
Sports Minister Olivia Babsy Grange says Jamaican sprint legend Usain Bolt is deserving of his record sixth IAAF Athlete of the Year Award.
Bolt was presented with the award by the International Association of Athletic Federation (IAAF) during a ceremony in Monaco last evening.
In a statement today, Grange said the world record holder over 100 and 200 metres was most deserving of the award for his exploits at the Games of the 31st Olympiad, held in Rio de Janeiro Brazil in August.
Bolt became the first athlete in history to win three gold medals in the 100 and 200 metres as well as the 4x100-metre relay at three consecutive Olympic Games.
Grange also congratulated Olympic champion Elaine Thompson who was nominated for the female athlete of the year award, which was won by Ethiopia's Almaz Ayana.
